Islamabad – Bahria University signed an MoU with Chabahar Maritime University, Iran, at Bahria University’s Islamabad Campus. The MoU was signed between Prof. Dr. Mohammad Husain Kareem, Chancellor, Chabahar Maritime University, Iran, and Vice Admiral (R) Farooq Rasheed, Rector, Bahria University in presence of His Excellency, Mr. Masha’allah Shakeri, Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran. Through this Memorandum of Understanding Bahria University and The University of Navigation and Marine Sciences, Chahbahar, agrees to work together to promote collaborative research in Pakistan & Iran in Maritime studies. Areas of co-operation will include exchange of faculty and students, exchange of research fellows, joint research projects, joint conferences and seminars, sharing / exchange of information & resources, common development of curriculum and such other areas as may be mutually beneficial.
National Center of Maritime Policy Research (NCMPR) of Bahria University was established under the directions of Prime Minister Pakistan in January, 2007. The centre provides a platform for think tanks, researchers and scholars to work on maritime matters and recommend strategies and measures to develop maritime sector through dissemination of knowledge to all stakeholders. The center also serves as focal point for advice on maritime affairs to all relevant government and other organizations. Chabahar Maritime University, Iran, on the other hand established in 1977 is the first Iranian centre for maritime & maritime-related studies to educate and train professionals in nautical science & maritime. The mutual co-operation in maritime studies shall lead to tremendous benefits to both Pakistan & Iran.
The signing ceremony was attended by His Excellency, Mr. Masha’allah Shakeri – Ambassador of Iran, Rear Admiral (R) Shahid Latif – Pro-Rector Bahria University, Commodore (R) Mumtaz Raza – Registrar Bahria University, Dr. Abbas Herati Mukhtari – Registrar Chabahar Maritime University, Capt. (R) Javed Afzal – Director NCMPR Bahria University, Mr. Mohsen Roohi Sefat – Deputy head of the Mission, Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran, and other officials and faculty from Bahria University & the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran.
